After you complete this one-day training, you will have built a strong, practical foundation in essential mortuary care practices. Throughout the Introductory Training Course: 1 Day Basic Mortuary Care course, you’ll engage with essential procedures that are fundamental to the field, such as basic manual handling techniques to ensure safety and comfort when working with the deceased. You’ll also become familiar with vital health and safety regulations specific to mortuary work and learn how to properly use Personal Protective Equipment to protect yourself during these sensitive tasks.

Course outline

The course ensures participants have the opportunity to demonstrate skills in core procedures, including basic manual handling, adhering to mortuary work health and safety procedures (SIFEWHS001), and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). You will also develop an understanding of vital mortuary terminology and basic instrument knowledge. 

Practical skills covered include setting facial features (SIFEMWK006), aspiration (SIFEMWK007), and the application of basic cosmetics, hair presentation, and dressing of the deceased (SIFEMWK008). Finally, you will learn the correct process for en-coffining a deceased person (SIFEMWK 001). 

Every aspect of this training aligns with the established guidelines set by the Australian Government ISC, providing a thorough foundation for those looking to enter the mortuary care profession.
