Pressure point

The pressure of the pandemic hasn’t eased for the funeral industry. In fact, many mortuaries including IFISS have been at maximum holding capacity.

So what has caused these capacity issues and how can those working in the industry remain resilient under the extra pressures?

What’s caused the extra pressure?
Although the pandemic is entering its third year, the strain on the funeral industry is greater than ever. This is due to the latest wave of Covid-19, Omicron. Staff shortages and a lack of access to rapid antigen tests has resulted in increased strain on the industry with many funeral homes struggling to maintain their usual services.

How IFISS can help

IFISS can provide experienced personnel to cover staff shortages and an unexpected increase in workload. Our adaptable and agile team is able to take over a wide variety of roles seamlessly.

IFISS can jump in to assist with anything from Administration and Management, Customer Service, Arranging and Conducting, Embalming, FDA hearse driving and transfer staff and Wellbeing interventions.

Building resilience

Those working within the funeral industry give compassion to every family they encounter every day. And, although working within this industry is incredibly rewarding, dealing with the emotions of families displayed in grief can be very challenging and take its toll.

Add a dash of staff-shortage pressure into the mix and it can be trickier for those working in this industry to prioritise their own wellbeing.

Remember, small actions can make a big difference to your resilience: spending time with friends and family, planning a holiday to look forward to, getting fresh air regularly, or even dancing in the living room. Whatever it is that lights you up and makes you happy – do it! Of course, resilience is more than just making it through the tough times with a few short bursts of fun.

At IFISS we value the work everyone does in this industry and know how important it is to look after yourself regularly so you can continue the job you were meant to do, Funeral care.

That’s why we’ve developed our Resilience Training, where we’ll show you how to look after your health and wellbeing with:

  • Mindfulness techniques
  • Methods of identifying changes in your mental and physical health
  • How to keep energised
  • Saying yes to help
