Mortuary care is a specialised profession, and opportunities for hands-on experience are scarce, making it difficult to take the first step. This is precisely why we have created this one-day Introduction to Basic Mortuary Care with Demonstration course. It is designed to bridge the gap between interest and a professional role, providing you with a foundational understanding and practical exposure to the world of mortuary work.
Course overview
This intensive one-day training, from 9 am to 4 pm, offers a comprehensive introduction to the critical procedures and protocols of the mortuary environment, all in a safe and supportive setting. Following the Australian Government ISC guidelines, you will be introduced to basic manual handling, learn essential mortuary terms, and understand the critical importance of workplace health and safety (SIFEWHS001) and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There will also be a live demonstration covering key mortuary procedures, including setting facial features (SIFEMWK006), aspiration (SIFEMWK007), and applying basic makeup, hair styling, and dressing the deceased (SIFEMWK008). You will also be shown how to en-coffin a person (SIFEMWK001).
