Many people are drawn to a career in the funeral industry. Yet, it can sometimes be difficult to know how to get your foot in the door. Once you secure a position, the next challenge is to acquire the specialised skills needed to advance into other areas. While a large amount of training often happens “on the job,” this can, unfortunately, leave significant gaps in your knowledge if there’s limited structure.

Whether you are already a working professional in the industry or you have obtained the necessary business criteria to commence a new venture, IFISS is here to provide you with essential basic skills and a strong understanding of the knowledge required for arranging funerals.

This two-day course is designed to provide the fundamental practical skills and deep comprehension of the expectations held by both the industry and the public. You will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the course, recognising your dedication.

What You Need to Succeed

To get the most out of this comprehensive training, you’ll need a valid driver’s license and some basic reading and math skills. Those with excellent communication and listening skills, who are in good physical and mental condition, and who have a genuine desire to help others with empathy towards the grieving are ideal participants. Maturity, flexibility, and a well-groomed appearance are also essential. Crucially, you must be able to remain calm in stressful situations, be willing to both take and give instructions under pressure, and possess the ability to multitask effectively.

Course Outline

The two-day program is structured to guide you through the complete arranging process:

Day 1 introduces you to the core of the business, covering Funeral Types, essential Industry Terminology, professional Meet & Greet etiquette, and critical First Call Training procedures.

Day 2 builds upon this foundation with comprehensive Arranger Training Basic skills. You will gain a thorough Understanding of Documentation, learn the Basics of Arranging a funeral, explore different Funeral Choices, and cover the critical elements of Explanation & Payment. We also provide an overview of the Back of House Outline to understand the logistical flow of the operation.

On-site assessments are also available upon request for further evaluation.
