A career in mortuary care is an exceptional path, one that requires a unique blend of technical skill, emotional resilience, and a profound commitment to serving others. For those drawn to this field, the desire often comes from a deep-seated need to provide dignity and respect to the deceased, ensuring they are presented with care and honour for their final viewing. It is a role that combines scientific understanding and technique with compassionate artistry, offering a secure and deeply meaningful profession.

While the funeral industry is a vital one, gaining specialised experience, particularly in complex areas like post-autopsy care, can be incredibly challenging. Hands-on training opportunities are scarce, and this lack of access can make it difficult for aspiring professionals to advance their skills and knowledge. Our Introductory Training Course: 1 Day Basic Mortuary Care – Autopsy is designed to address this very challenge. It serves as the essential next step for those who have already completed our foundational course, have some prior experience, and meet the IFISS criteria.

Course overview

This intensive, one-day course, running from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, provides an invaluable opportunity to build upon your existing skills and knowledge. The session will also cover essential tools for autopsy cases and teach you how to set facial features (SIFEMWK006), addressing the unique challenges of presenting someone who has not been embalmed.

Furthermore, you will learn critical skills for preparing the deceased for viewing, including methods for preventing leakage, professional re-suturing techniques, and applying basic cosmetics and hair presentation (SIFEMWK008). The course will conclude with instruction on how to en-coffin a person (SIFEMWK001).
